Last Saturday the Calusa Land Trust of Pine Island sponsored the annual Rubber Ducky Race. I was invited to bring my books. I haven't heard how much money was raised by various activities, but I was told the norm is about $30,000. All monies go toward land
preservation efforts by this more than worthwhile organization. I applaud all members for their efforts. I enjoyed being at a table where I met three other local author's signing their books. The sun was out. The sky was blue, but then things changed--the sky darkened. A sudden microburst toppled the awnings and knocked a couple of people out. Once the injured were given medical attention and awnings were folded up and set aside, the auction and festivities continued. Such is exciting life on the islands.
